My Teacher, My Hero

MY TEACHER, MY HERO

There are countless definitions of heroes today. Is it a superstar who used his fame and fortune to help the needy in his hometown? Is it a firefighter who sees no danger in all circumstances just to save lives of people? Is it an Overseas Filipino Worker who is ready to bear the pain of being alone just to provide his family a comfortable life? But what really makes a person a hero?

There are heroes and heroines, national and local. Some of them are born, others are made. Many are still living while many others have long been gone. It is to the latter that monuments and museums were built to keep alive their memories in our hearts and mind. Public buildings, parks and plazas, streets and few cities and provinces have been named after them. Important dates and events are usually marked red in the calendar to remind us of their birth or death anniversary. During the celebration of these events, program speakers take turns extolling to high heavens whatever good they had done for the country.

But behind all these great people are strong foundations that guide, develop, and mold them all throughout. They are the teachers!
What else can we think of when teachers are mentioned? Their understanding, hardships, advices and care for us students. And of course, lectures new lessons, quizzes and assignments! Those memories when they came about to tell stories and jokes with us students. Their “sermons” to us during times when we were disobedient, or lazy to pass our assignments. Their continuous patience and hard works really seem unfolded.

There are countless definitions of heroes in our world today. Is it a superstar who used his fame and fortune to help the needy in his hometown? Is it a firefighter who sees no danger in all circumstances just to save lives of people? Is it an Overseas Filipino

Worker who is ready to bear the pain of being alone just to provide his family a comfortable life? Or is it a mom who has to work two jobs to support her children and still make them feel the love they need? But what really makes a person a hero?
Behind these great people are strong foundations that guide and develop them all throughout. Education is one of the greatest gift mankind can ever receive. It is vital to anybody. The role played by teachers becomes very significant since they are considered as one of the nation builders. On him rests the failure or the success of the nation. The influence of the teacher is very immense and no one knows when this influence becomes visible. Since the teacher serves as the second parent of a child, he should have the qualities of a role model person. From the simple ABC and 123 to keeping the surroundings always clean are learned from the Kindergarten teachers which are still applicable today. These knowledge, attitudes, values and behavior bring out good and responsible citizens.

The teacher measures the achievements and aspirations of the nation. The teacher is a dynamic force that motivates everyone to become a responsible, productive citizen. The teacher is the backbone of the community. SACRIFICE, DETERMINATION, COURAGE, DEDICATION, SELFLESS, PERSEVERANCE – these are the common qualities attributed to a hero. After reading this essay, when do you consider a person a hero?

The Modern Hero

Heroes of The Land of Newerth

The Land of Newerth means the land of the new modernized world we are living today.
In today's modern times we hear the word hero all of the time. The news media throws the term around as if it is an everyday word. What exactly is a hero? Who, or what, can be classified as heroic? The correct definition of the word hero is: One invested with heroic qualities in the opinions of others. That is a fine definition for books and intellectual minds. To the average person, however, a hero is much more.

To better understand what a heroic quality is it may be easier to describe what a hero is not. Nearly everyday on television people talk of athletes and celebrities as being heroes, but are they? To put it mildly, they are not heroes at all. Possibly role models, but for the most part, not in possession of heroic qualities. When Michael Jordan and Bruce Willis, by risking their lives, save an abandoned child from a typhoon they will possess the qualities to be called heroes in my opinion. Policemen and firemen are at times classified as heroes. Until they prove themselves they are just ordinary people. The title heroic is not given by occupation, rather by achievement.

So what exactly is a hero? Parents are true heroes. Most parental units sacrifice time, money, love and everything else for their children. When times are tough good parents do all they can to make things better for their children. Mothers and fathers often work two jobs, late at night, or on weekends to provide for their kids. Sometimes when in danger, they always decide to die for their children in order for them to live specially when in times of war.
There is a saying: “Yesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery, But Today is a Gift That is Why it is Called a Present.”
This means everyday of our life is a journey and adventure. Life is very precious and we need to spend it according to the Commandments of God. Sometimes death is everywhere. We do not know when it will be. Each of us are called to be adventurers because we live in this small world. Sometimes we need to choose something that is better for us and everyone else. But can you choose between life and death? Do you want to die as a hero or live as a coward? Many of us sacrifice our lives for the good of our country or ancestors. True heroes always have the heart of sacrificing. These people who sacrifice today called heroes of newerth.
